Flightless Bird by Iron & Wine

Hello,
My friend Nida of Whimsical Ideas invited us on her blog that we try create journal pages based on songs. I was playing with my new carved stamps when inspiration struck. In my heart, I wanted to create a sunset scene for a Twilight page, where the setting sun shone through trees and leaves. And I would write on the page parts of a song from Twilight movie called 'Flightless Bird' by Iron & Wine. This song was on while Bella & Edward slow dancing out at the gazebo :). You can listen to it here.

The stamped background was inspired by Lorenzo Pentratoni's Swatch black & white latest collection;

My finished pages;
See, I CANNOT spell 'flightless'!. I cannot multi-task. I cannot spell and paint at the same time :). There is no way to correct the mistake or else ruining the whole thing. So I left it as it is :). Totally embarrassing.

I collaged tissue papers, painted the pages with crayons and soft pastels before stamping crazily with black gesso for texture. Wrote the lyrics in liquid correction pen & maroon sharpie.

Okay, I'm off to go grab some (late) lunch. See you soon, Happy Monday!.

Hugs,
Shahrul

  1. I have never thought of stamping with my black gesso! Thank you for the new idea. And, don't feel embarrassed about your spelling mistake...how many of us have done this in our journals??!! I have even found these in the art journaling magazines in page features...we are human and that's so ok!! "Beautiful is never Perfect", but, my friend, your art is perfectly beautiful!! Have a happy day and a good lunch! Kath

  2. What a great page this is, love that you used black gesso, have never seen it before, looks fun though!! The design on the background is what I'm loving right now, these colors are my favorite too. SO this page is making me VERY HAPPY!!

    I feel the same way as Kathy (above) about the misspelling. This happens to me all the time, even when leaving comments, typing to fast and should slow down. Don't even worry about and honestly didn't notice it till I read your wirting about it. This is a perfectly beautifully page.

    p.s. I sent you an email did you get it?? My computer doesn't always do what I need it to so just checking, thanks.
    Enjoy the day!

    1. Yup, black gesso (Daler-Rowney) is totally funner than the white one, I must tell you :). When you paint acrylic on it and sand off the edges, you'll have a deep antique-ish of that color on top. If I want my projects to be slightly 'mysterious' looking, I'd go for black gesso as base :).

      I only realized about the error while writing the post. LOL. Hugs.

    1. LOL. Yeah, I need a spell checker there!. Black gesso is just too amazing for anything. I want to try next, dilute black gesso and see if it works like black india ink :).

  5. I love black gesso, and your stamping looks great in it! (And all of the fabulous texture you've used is great!) Don't worry about the spelling... I'm sure most of us wouldn't have even noticed if you didn't mention it :)
