A gift from the Universe

I walk a lot. To run errands, to go lunch or just have a quiet time on my own at the park. Just yesterday while about to cross a small road, there was a little breeze and I saw a tiny white feather falling from the sky. But there were no birds!.  Wow, I said ... a Forest Gump moment. I picked it up and went home smiling, knowing that someone is watching over me :).

And my journal today is a tribute to the beautiful Universe. My gratitude for the love and light that fills me from the heavens.

I'm playing with image transfer and boy, it was hard to get a good one!.

The two large orange fuzzy blobs were image-transfer-went-wrong. LOL. I wanted to imitate the distant nebulae in faraway galaxies in our universe. I added multiple layers of orange/yellow/tan soft pastels and watered down gesso to get the depth of these gaseous heavenly bodies. I especially love splashing diluted gesso on the page to create the stars :).

Yeah, that was the feather that came to me :). Added a few strips of washi tapes and tissue papers before finger painted the page with aqua acrylic paint. I think aqua is the better color than black for the dark space of the universe. And here are my three cats making a debut appearance on my art journal pages. Love them to bits!.

Don't forget to hop over to LESSology Challenge #15: Bookends. You could be wining EAD Designs $25 Gift Certificate. Great deal.
Till next, have a great Friday!.

Hugs,
Shahrul

  1. Your posts are always a nice read. LOVE the feather and the story. Image transfer? maybe it's because I don't know what it is but it looks good (I think)!!!

    1. Thanks Lalo!. I was trying to transfer an inkjet printed image onto my journal page. I did this by gently rubbing an inkjet printed image (upside down) onto a glue-coated journal page, until the desired image is transfered. I think I had rubbed it too hard, there's nothing left on my page just two very distressed-looking blobs. LOL.

  2. Hello, first time here thru Julie's blog. I love this page, the story is so cool and you used the feather on the page, LOVE THAT. The pages came out beautiful I think, love all the bright colors together. Great Job!!

I had to peek at your other posts and LOVE LOVE them so much. It's great to read the process and thoughts about your pages, always like when artists do that. What a great page inspired by Alisa's shoes, never thought to create something in my journals from her posts. Really like that idea and laughed at the 2:00 am inspiration strikes at anytime. You got a lot done in that hour. Your fabric journals are pretty, love them all!
HOORAY for a rainbow page, I did one of those a few months ago and loved the results.
Have now signed up to follow your blog, truly inspirational, thanks so much for sharing I enjoyed reading it all.
    Happy Friday!

    1. Welcome to my blog!. So nice to meet you :). I like to tell stories about what inspires me to create that particular journal pages. And try to not be so technical about techniques that I used. I hope this will inspire people to tell their stories :). Of late, I find little every day things 'talked' to me, and sometimes I learn from them. So, need to journal about that too or else I just forget!. LOL. So happy that you are following me. Thanks so much for your kind words. Hugs.

  3. It does look like a nebulae to me. I'm seeing Orion there, if you notice the 3 middle stars, but Betelguese, Rigel, saiph and bellatrix; they are covered by clouds....( pretend that I'm watching thru my Meade, ok) ; they are there on your page but just a bit faint..( cloud cover..)..
Love it! This just has to be my favourite!!
( ever wonder if cats here are similar there? ) nine lives.....hmmm....

    1. OMG, Nida!. You are right. I didn't noticed at all, just splash the paint randomly. Wow, that is NOT a coincidental too, I think. I could see the Orion Belt and the subsequent bright stars around it (even their placement are perfect!). I could almost see the nebula too (the sword), see it?. Wow. This is NOT my work, some alien intervention here surely. My art angels, maybe. I Love them :).

    1. Hi Jennifer!. I used rush ALL the time, LOL. And now I'm starting to slow down, 'listen' to mother Earth and learn from it. It calms me, brings hope and courage in my artistic journey. Hugs.
