Finally, I had the chance to play with Donna Downey's pan pastel at Scrappingville's mixed-media art jam last week!. The colors are brilliant and what a nice surprise to find that they are not as dusty as I thought they would be.
I adhered some crumpled tissue papers and clear reinforcement rings in the background. Then, generously applied pan pastel (red & blue) with a wet sponge all over the page.
Dabbed black acrylic paint over stencil and drew circles in black india ink. Wrinkles from the crumpled tissue papers. LOL. Smudged a bit of gesso on reinforcement rings to allow them taking some paint. I did a very simple beading. Just attached some beads to safety pins!. A little stitching on paper scraps. [I'm inspired by Dawn's work in this post].
I like my journal to be chunky. If the pages rattle, or ring or overflowed with fibers, ribbons and charms, that's even better!. So that is all. The last entry for my 3rd journal :).
See you next.
I just LOVE this. I want to hold your chunky journals in my hands!
ReplyDeleteditto! :)). Hugs.
DeleteOMG, YOU ROCK!! This page is AMAZING!! I saw those paper scraps/stitching right away and SMILED!! How cool this all looks together, you amaze me each week with what you create. I REALLY REALLY NEED TO LEARN ABOUT LAYERS, my mind freezes after the first one and I don't know what to do after that. Those circles are fun, the black gesso is a great effect on the page, YOU TOTALLY ROCKED THIS ONE!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for mentioning me here, I'm touched that something I made inspired YOU!! This made my day!! So glad to have found your blog sweet friend, HUGS!
I agree with Kathy, would love to hold this journal!
When I first started art journaling in May, I was like you. I had some ideas on making layers but was not brave enough. It's OK to give ourselves enough time to just experiment, trying new things or leave the journal and come back to it when inspirations strike. Don't rush on anything and most importantly, don't be afraid to make mistakes. I have a lot of 'ooops' and THAT give me a chance to be more creative, to hide them of course! LOL. It's a worthy journey :).
DeleteDawn, you were so clever with the stitching!. Inspiring. I can't help myself but to try it. I'm going to learn sewing soon (I just know a little stitching & embroidery ). That will open up endless possibilities!. TFS. Hugs back.
Looks like a lot of yummy texture here on your pages. They look wonderful.. I have to agree with you the chunkier the journal the better..
