Hi again :),
I made these pages last night, so I could link them up to Art Journal Cafe's latest challenge; Monochrome. Yes, even when I have not completely blogging a few other older pages. They will have to wait :).
I have done monochromatic pages before but this time, I used sadder colors. I totally LOVE black!. With limited colors, I tried to vary the black tones (few shades of black, gray and white) with some green hues. Hope I didn't break any rules here :).
I like to imagine myself walking trough a dark enchanted forest where pretty but sad blooms thrive on the ground :). I simply doodled some flowers with gray & white wax crayons, which later would resist black ink wash. I then wrote 'never never give up' with a correction pen.
To add dimension to the foreground, I stamped more flowers with black and white gesso. The crumpled tissue paper in the background really added depth to my pages when washed with watered-down black india ink. I could almost see strange tree branches and curious light coming from the deep forest, LOL. (I know I get carried away, I LOVE Alice in Wonderland movie too much).
I especially like this post. It felt like I'm illustrating a scary scene in a children story book :). In actuallity, they are pages to remind me NOT to give up making art. That's all I have.
I like to take this opportunity to wish all my Muslim friends a good Eid Mubarak or "Hari Raya Aidilfitri" as we Malaysians call it. Have a great and safe festivity tomorrow!.
Hugs.

DeleteHello Shahrul,
Deletehope you see this today. I just posted my pages from my crop yesterday and a little peek at my black/texture page I did last night. Went with kinda the same thing as you but didn't want to copy it, just played and had fun. Take a look when you have time. The picture is pretty dark so I'm going to retake them today with the natural light coming in. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hello Shahrul, this page is marvelously done, I love it.
ReplyDeleteI think that because it is monochromatic the texture just truly pops off the pages . . . and I love the message, too. It is a great piece of work!
