CCCB Week 109 - Sketch by Linda

Hello all,
It's such an honor for me to guest design at City Crafter Challenge Blog for this week, Week 109. The theme is Sketch by Linda. And I'm using the most beautiful whimsical ballerina and vintage ticket collage images from this week's sponsor; Digital Paper. Thank you so much :)).

I'm so excited to share with you an of-the-page project using Linda's sketch shown below;

I love altering old books!. For this week's inspiration, I have made a book box, which I can later use for storing little craft things or jewelry. Here is how I interpreted Linda's sketch for the interior of the book box;

First we must 'prepare' the book. I carefully cut out a portion of the original pages, but left a few of the last pages intact. These last few pages will be glued to the book cover, and would act as the base of the 'box'. I stapled every half a centimeter of the loose pages around the hole as reinforcement. I repeated the process until I've got several thick pages bundled up, and secured. Then only I glued all them together to make one thick 'box' with a hole in the middle. Best is to let it dry for about 2 days before doing more work on it.

I love the rich red color the original covers, so I used them as is. The best part about altering a book is creating the closure. Here, I used an old metal hook & a key chain with leather strings as closure. So fun!. I decoupaged a few roses to both covers.

I can't help but to add cute charms to the back cover :). I have to cleverly hide any original prints with laces. At last, a fun storage for anything small. Love letters, stamps, postcards, etc.

I hope you'll enjoy altering books :)). It may look like hard work, but it's worth it. I had fun with this project. Thank you again Kirsty, for having me this week @ CCCB.

XO,
Shahrul
